Armed with two cameras, filming partner Pete Davies and I spent 11 days traveling throughout Morocco with out brilliant fixer Abdel. From busy Fez to beautiful Merzouga, through to Essaouira by the sea and back to Marrakech, we tried to capture the essence of Morocco in a short film, practicing our shooting and editing abilities.

A passion project like this gave us a huge amount of freedom to fail and try new shots, cuts and edits. Unlike a set with a controlled environment, this run and gun style of shooting allowed us the flexibility to be spontaneous and capture unplanned moments.
My favourite scene of the film happened completely by chance. We were driving through the Moroccan countryside to our next destination in the early evening when we stumbled on a group of kids playing football in a dusty field. We immediately jumped out the car and asked if we could film them, and they happily carried on playing as we chased them with our cameras. The low golden hour sunlight was perfect to capture the scene, and I love how it catches the dust that is kicked up by the players and the ball.

We didn't get to see and capture everything we set out to, but we also shot things we never expected we would. This trip was a true adventure of discovery, both in terms of our traveling, and in terms of our filmmaking.
